VMC Heavy Duty Wide Gap Hook

VMC Heavy Duty Wide Gap Hook

Built for big lines, heavy equipment and tough situations, the VMC “Ike Approved” Heavy Duty Wide Gap Hook was designed with the help of 2003 Bassmaster Classic Champion and 2006 Angler of the Year, Michael “Ike” Iaconelli. He shared the tricks and tweaks that tournament pros have used for years to put winning fish in the boat, and applied them to one of the newest hook designs from VMC. Featuring a 3-degree offset point that may not seem like much at first, it actually greatly increases the hooking rate of the hook. Incredibly sharp and also equipped with a wide gap to accommodate a wide range of soft plastics, the VMC “Ike Approved” Heavy Duty Wide Gap Hook also comes equipped with a hook eye that is sealed shut with smooth epoxy resin to prevent your line from slipping through or getting damaged.

Field testing this product was done at the Letsibogo Dam in Botswana. The two biggest fish caught for me during this outing both came on Texas rigged plastics. Both fish were over 5kg and was pulled out of heavy timber on stout tackle and 25lb line. Those that have been there will tell you these brutes are exceptionally strong and. The 5/0 hook I was using did not bend and it retained its razor sharp point.

Shimano Curado 200I Series

We all know that technical specs are quite important when we are looking at reels but the first time I saw the Curado 200 I the first thing that went through my mind was WOW. The looks on this reel just blew my mind.

Shimano incorporated technologies like X-Ship and Stable Spool Design (S3D) into the Curado 200 I. This give the frame, gears and spool rigidity and stableness while you’re casting, setting the hook and fighting big fish. I really like the smoothness and castability of this reel. The reel only has 5 ball bearing but they are the S A-RB bearings. The reel also casts extremely well thanks to the new S3D technology.

Something that is very important to me is a comfortable reel. It should not be like a brick in your hand, we all have those heavy uncomfortable reels that just end up in the fishing room back home. Most of us like to have matching reels and rods but this is not always possible because you do not always get the reels in different gear ratios. The Curado 200 I comecur-200-isos in 5.5:1, 6.3:1 and 7.2:1 gear ratios in both left and right hand models.

I think we all ran out of excuses to not buy this great reel, now just get out on the water and enjoy the fishing!
